An overnight tour from Delhi to Agra, giving you ample time to explore the Taj Mahal at both sunrise and sunset, plus surrounding heritage attractions.
The argument for staying the night in Agra is simple: the Taj Mahal is a different building at either end of the day, and a day trip can only show you one of them. This tour gives you sunset at Mehtab Bagh across the river on the first evening and sunrise at the monument itself the following morning.
It also removes the part of the day trip people dislike most. There is no 3 AM departure from Delhi and no three-hour drive home on tired legs — you sleep twenty minutes from the East Gate and walk to it in the morning.
Between May and July this stops being a preference and becomes the sensible choice. A Delhi-based sunrise tour in June means leaving around 1:30 AM, and the heat by mid-morning makes everything after the Taj hard work.

Good to know
Sunrise here means walking, not driving
Your hotel is close enough to the East Gate that the morning starts twenty minutes before the gate opens rather than three hours. The gate time moves through the year — around 6:35 AM in December, as early as 4:55 AM in June — and we set the morning against your actual date.
Mehtab Bagh is the view most day trippers never see
The garden sits directly across the Yamuna from the Taj Mahal, on the axis Shah Jahan designed it to be seen from. At sunset the marble goes warm and the crowd is a fraction of the one inside. It closes at sunset, which is exactly why a day trip out of Delhi cannot fit it in.
The Taj Mahal is closed every Friday
No exceptions, for congregational prayers at the mosque inside the complex. Tell us your dates and we will flag it before you book, or reshape the itinerary around Agra Fort, Fatehpur Sikri and Mehtab Bagh — which still gives you the classic view across the river.

Questions about this tour
Is an overnight Taj Mahal tour better than a day trip?
For most people, yes, and the reason is not the extra sightseeing. You see the monument at sunset from across the river and at sunrise from inside, you skip the 3 AM departure and the tired drive home, and you have a second morning in reserve if winter fog hides the Taj on the first one. A day trip gives you one attempt at one time of day.
Are meals included in this tour?
Yes — all meals through the trip are included as set out in the itinerary, along with one night at an Agra heritage hotel on a twin-sharing basis. Drinks and anything ordered outside the set menu are not. This is one of the few tours where meals are covered; most of our day tours build in a stop and you settle the bill there.
What is there to do in Agra in the evening?
Sunset at Mehtab Bagh across the river is the main event, and it is the view most day visitors never get. Agra Fort in the late afternoon light is the other. The following morning adds Itimad-ud-Daulah — the Baby Taj — which is where the inlay technique used on the Taj Mahal was worked out first, and which is almost always quiet.
Is the overnight version better in summer?
Considerably. A Delhi-based sunrise tour in June means a 1:30 AM pickup, because the Taj opens 30 minutes before sunrise and the drive is three and a half hours. Staying in Agra turns that into a short walk. Between May and July we usually recommend this version over the day trip without being asked.
What happens if it is foggy in the morning?
Agra fog in December and January can hide the monument until mid-morning. The advantage of staying overnight is that you have already seen it from Mehtab Bagh the previous evening, and your ticket is valid for three hours from entry — so the usual plan is to wait with your guide and reorder the morning rather than lose the visit.
